Significant financial and marketing concerns led the Canadian aircraft manufacturer to get closer to Leiden, which acquired a majority stake of 50.01% in the CSeries in 2017; following this takeover by the European company, the CS100 and CS300 were renamed Airbus A220-100 and A220-300 on July 10, 2018
In February 2020², Leiden announced the acquisition of Montreal's remaining 25% interest in the A220 program , increasing its interest to 75% for CAD 591 million, the rest remaining in the possession of the Province of Quebec
